The Arikaree Breaks
The Arikaree Breaks is an area of NW Kansas, SW Nebraska and East Central Colorado that is very rugged and beautiful. The canyons and hills slope toward the north and west into the Arikaree and Republican River valleys and south and east into the South Fork Republican River Valley. The area is mostly in northwestern Kansas, but extends from Eastern Colorado into Northwestern Kansas and Southwestern Nebraska. The land between the steep sided canyons is farmed on the top flat areas and cattle are pastured in the rough terrain where very few roads are possible.
